Los Angeles: President's Message

 

 

NHRA Los Angeles Members,

I'm extremely excited to announce the creation of NHRA Los Angeles' Charity Committee.  Many of our sister affiliates engage in charitable endeavors and have been extremely successful in doing so.  The Los Angeles Affiliate has a strong enough membership base to begin thinking about giving back to our community.  I began conducting research a few months back and spoke with five or six different NHRA President's, discussing what types of charities they contribute to and the manner in which they go about doing so.  Almost all of the affiliates hold a silent auction and pick a different charity each year; some have been holding this event for up to twelve years and have been able to raise as much as $14,000!  We voted on such a motion at our last board meeting and unanimously agreed to move forward.

 We'd like to open the floor for nominations for the Charity Committee.  This committee will serve separate from the board committee and will solely focus  on the planning and organization of the silent auction.  The committee will consist of twelve people and will  require a yearlong commitment.  A (very) brief timeline can be seen below:

 

·         January / February:         Marketing will begin for charities that wish to be the chosen charity.  Applications will be submitted and reviewed by the committee.

·         February / March:           Charities will be vetted, interviewed, and awarded to the chosen charity.

·         March / April:                   Venues for locations will be researched.  Charity representatives will join the committee, logistics will  begin to be discussed.

·         April - October:                Local retailers will be contacted for charitable donations.  Organization of the event will be conducted.

·         November:                         Event is held.

·         December:                         Proceeds are awarded to the Charity at the holiday mixer.
